The Big Dig was 20 week long archaeological excavation carried out in 1994 at a site between Cumberland and Gloucester Streets in the Rocks, Sydney. In addition to over 3/4 million artefacts, evidence for 42 houses was uncovered. Archival research has been able to identify about 90 of the individual inhabitants, one of whom was George Legg, a convict on the First Fleet.
