James Byrne was the son of Richard Byrne and Margaret Kelly.
In 1830 he built the St. Patrick's Inn which incorporated George Cribbs' old house at what is now 95 Gloucester Street. The St. Patricks' Inn later became the Whaler's Arms. James died is 1838.
