Governor Philips, Major Ross, Capt. Hunter, and Lieuts. Dawes and King explore the south side of Botany Bay in several boats. Lieuts. Dawes and King land with a party of marines and climb a hill. They meet aboriginals who wish them to return to their boats. A spear is thrown amongst them as they retreat and a musket is fired, with powder only, in response. The aboriginals then run away and the party returns to the boats. Governor Philips joins them, the aborigines return, gifts are exchanged and peace re-established.
