Fanny Barnett arrived as a convict aboard the Speke in 1808. She married George Cribb in 1811 at St Philips Church. George however was already married and in 1814 his first wife came out from England to join him. To avoid being discovered as a bigamist George agreed to pay Fanny the large sum of three hundred pounds if she would leave the colony immediately. And he also agreed to pay her fare and travelling expenses!
